Overview:
FMC Global Regulatory Sciences (GRS) is looking for a candidate to join our Plant Health Sciences Team. The position is based at either our Global Research Center in Newark, Delaware, USA or our European Innovation Centre in Hørsholm (greater Copenhagen area), Denmark. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing team priorities, advising registration and business teams on issues, and engaging in critical assessments as a technical expert. This position reports to the Manager of Plant Health Sciences.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical expert in microbial taxonomy and safety, including assessment of toxins, virulence factors, anti-microbial resistance, and secondary metabolite production using bioinformatics tools
- Create genomic databases including relevant reference strains and generate bioinformatics pipeline for these analyses in the cloud computing environment
- Interpret microbial taxonomy and safety data for the purposes of biosafety and registration of new microbial plant protection products, product renewals or life cycle management
- Lead the design of regulatory studies together with contract research organizations, troubleshoot technical problems, monitor study progress, and approve final reports
- Prepare product registration dossiers for global and regional projects, including literature reviews, assessment of secondary metabolites and toxins of concern
- Act as project leader within regulatory sciences group, collaborate with colleagues in other technical disciplines and assist FMC in identifying and/or making informed decisions about new and existing products as required
- Maintain a current awareness of developments in regulatory science through data mining, participation in Industry Task Forces and Working Groups, Trade Associations and/or professional conferences
Required Education:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Microbial safety, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related field;
- M.S. in Microbiology, Microbial safety, Biochemistry, Biochemistry, or related field; plus a minimum of 5 years in regulatory sciences for plant health product or agrochemicals
Qualifications:
- Experience in microbial taxonomy – knowledge of taxonomic systematics, phylogeny, microbial physiology, populations and use of bioinformatics
- Knowledge of microbial safety including infectious diseases and public health guidance
- Understanding of global regulatory data requirements for biological plant protection products and pheromones
- Experience with business travel – up to 15%, including international travel
