This opportunity is located at Stine Research Center, Newark, DE.

FMC Research & Development Process Chemistry group is currently seeking an initiative-taking Chemistry Intern to join our 2023 internship program.

Reaction optimization is a key facet of process chemistry.  By systematically varying the parameters of the reaction, greatly enhanced selectivity, rate, yield, purity, and importantly cost can be achieved. A current synthesis uses a very challenging cyclization step that has been resistant to further improvement thus limiting the efficacy of the route.  An alternate approach using a distinct cyclization has been shown to be feasible, but significant optimization is necessary before a decision between the routes can be made. The successful intern will perform experiments to investigate refinements of reaction conditions and procedures using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and / or gas chromatography (GC) to monitor reactions.
