FMC Ventures, the venture capital arm of FMC Corporation, evaluates emerging technologies of relevance to the agricultural industry and will invest in those that create a unique strategic advantage for FMC.  There is a vast global network of entrepreneurs, inventors and scientists developing tools and technologies to address the multitude of challenges facing growers.  Many of these inventions also serve to enhance the already great work ongoing within FMC.  FMC Ventures is focused on identifying, investing in, and supporting these companies and their management teams to commercialize and scale their technologies.  We operate like a start-up within the FMC organization, moving quickly and decisively. We are a lean team, sourcing investment opportunities on a global scale and collaborating with colleagues from across the organization to evaluate those emerging technologies.

We are hiring a Venture Associate – someone who is excited to learn the full breadth of venture investment, from sourcing to deal making and portfolio management. A quick learner who is equally as comfortable diving deep into a specific technology area as they are evaluating and building financial models. This person will be a critical team member from day one, involved in all aspects of the deals we make and the relationships we build – from our Investment Committee and teams within FMC to the founders and Boards of our portfolio companies.

Responsibilities:

The day-to-day duties will be variable, but the Ventures Associate should expect to contribute as needed to sourcing and evaluation, portfolio company management, and internal stakeholder management. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Building a network of entrepreneurs and fellow investors to generate dealflow
  • Performing company and technology research
  • Taking pitches and evaluating start-up business plans
  • Conducting investment due diligence as part of the Ventures deal team
  • Performing financial analysis and modeling
  • Maintaining deal records
  • Assisting in portfolio company management and reporting
  • Preparing written materials including investment memos and investment committee updates
  • Engaging with Venture Partners to solicit input on specific investment opportunities
  • Support presentations on investment cases to FMC Ventures Investment Committee
  • Coordinate with FMC Communications to support content development for FMC website and social media outlets

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an agriculture-relevant field of science (e.g., biology, agronomy, chemistry, entomology); Masters or MBA would be welcome
  • Experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, consulting, or other related field (prior deal experience not required but highly appreciated)
  • Strong skill set in one or more of the following areas: data analytics, financial modeling, or market research
  • Ability to operate under uncertainty, willingness to learn by doing, and confidence in defending your opinions
  • Excellent communication skills across verbal, visual, and written situations
  • A passion for finding and nurturing the technological breakthroughs that seem impossible today, but with the right support will become inevitable pieces of the future of agriculture

All applicants will be required to show proof of their vaccination status upon receipt of an offer of employment. Exemptions will be granted only to those applicants who are unable to take the vaccine due to medical reasons or a sincerely held religious belief.   FMC will work with those who apply for and are granted exemptions in an effort to identify reasonable accommodations which will permit those individuals to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
