Global Director Sustainability, Strategic Impact 


At FMC sustainability is a core value and as a leading Agricultural Sciences company, we are committed to building a sustainable future for all our stakeholders.  We formally embarked on our sustainability journey a decade ago and have made significant progress in multiple areas.  FMC became a signatory to the UN Global Compact in 2014.  In 2020 we received the American Chemical Council (ACC) Responsible Care® Company of the Year Award for the second year in a row and the third time since 2017. Our 2020 Sustainability Report Resilient. In 2021, we established the Office of the Corporate Sustainability Officer bringing together Sustainability, Stewardship, Diversity & Inclusion, Philanthropy and Government & Industry Affairs to maximize our impact in this arena.  We are looking for a strategic leader in Sustainability to accelerate our progress and our positive impact.   Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer and working with peers on the team and multiple stakeholder groups, this key role will ensure a holistic approach to sustainability at FMC as we progress to a net zero future and a business rooted in sustainable practices. 


Key Responsibilities 


  • Leverage knowledge of best practices, legislation, interest group expectations, standards, and trends to integrate sustainability into our business and our products 

  • Maintain awareness of the external sustainability environment, researching and monitoring emerging trends, programs and issues, reporting standards, stakeholder concerns, and communicating and educating others 

  • Partner with cross-functional experts and oversee submissions to sustainability reporting organizations 

  • Partner with Investor Relations and others to manage engagement with rating firms to ensure that ratings and ranking reflect our progress 

  • Conduct gap analysis using reporting frameworks, rankings, benchmarking and investor surveys to identify opportunities to accelerate impact 

  • Establish leadership position in sustainable agriculture by engaging externally with relevant stakeholders (e.g., NGO, industry groups and peers, customers) to accomplish FMCs goals and broaden partnership opportunities 

  • Serve as a thought leader to FMC’s global network and leverage their team(s) content expertise to contribute high impact data/stories that reflects our commitment as a sustainability-driven company 

  • Create strategic opportunities by identifying and evaluating programs that advance overall sustainability goals in area of climate change, food security, and Biodiversity/Soil Health 

  • Oversee biannual materiality assessment process 

  • Collaborate with R&D on continuous improvement of Sustainability Assessment Tool and application 




  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Progressive experience leading sustainability programs at an enterprise and global level 

  • A connector of ideas, people, and resources to realize impactful outcomes 

  • A strategic approach to stakeholder engagement to understand motivation and interests, and gain commitment and collaboration 

  • Versed in reporting frameworks such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)  

  • Familiar with rating firms such as Sustainalytics, MCSI and Ecovadis 

  • Ability to balance aspiration with pragmatic actions 

  • A skilled communicator with the ability to distill complex topics for varied audiences
