Job Overview:

 

The Regional Process Safety Leader is a key business leader responsible for all aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM) within the region.  As a member of the Global PS Team this role provides leadership, strategic guidance, technical expertise, and support on PSM matters in the region.  This role must maintain effective communications with business and site leaders to ensure the region effectively meets PSM objectives and continuously improves PSM performance throughout the region.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Ensure effective functioning and continuous improvement of PSM systems within the region
  • Participate in global PSM team to support development and improvement of PSM related standards, procedures, tools, and guidance
  • Participate in EHS Compliance Audits
  • Lead or participate in investigations to ensure proper classification, thorough root cause analysis and drive implementation of appropriate actions to prevent recurrence
  • Assist in safety evaluations of new projects
  • Support Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) preparation, resourcing, execution and review of final reports to ensure correct application of PSM systems
  • Lead process safety analyses or reviews as necessary
  • Provide training to ensure adequate implementation of PSM Standard, procedures and tools
  • Identify industry standards, best practices and regulatory changes related to PSM and evaluate the impacts on FMC systems as appropriate
  • Identify competent consulting firms to support process hazard evaluation and mitigation work within the region
  • Actively interact with Technical Center Organization and sites
  • Coordinate with EHS Regional leader(s) to ensure mutual support and effective implementation of EHS programs within the region
  • Lead one or more process safety functional areas within Global PSM Team
  • Actively represent FMC’s interests on chemical trade and industry groups
  • Resolve complex compliance matters using data and management systems 
  • Analyze EHS data for trends and identify appropriate actions to prevent incidents
  • Promote an aligned and harmonized EHS culture across the region

 

Required Education: 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or science or equivalent years of related experience


Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years’ experience in PSM and/or EHS within chemical manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively influence in a matrix organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor PSM resources to improve functional capability
  • Experience working in manufacturing/operations functions and driving PSM within a plant environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict through constructive confrontations
  • Ability to challenge “status quo” and encourage others to try new approaches
  • Experience and competence in one or more of the process safety functional areas: consequence analysis, safety instrumented systems, emergency preparedness and response, fire protection, emergency release systems, combustible dust, process hazard analysis, QRA, LOPA and/or bow tie analysis
  • Experience in processes covered by Major Accident Hazard, OSHA PSM or equivalent regulation is desirable
  • Travel required (30%)
