This position has responsibility for operating, maintaining, and trouble-shooting the site’s electrical distribution systems. The position provides electrical and instrumentation support for general electrical maintenance for the various types of equipment related to R&D operations, as well as, the powerhouse operation and boilers.


Key responsibilities include but are limited to the following:

Safely maintains and repairs electrical equipment and instrumentation (E&I) as assigned to have a reliable operating unit. Provides daily support to operations in order to make necessary repairs.
Documents work and repair history to retain information on equipment for future use.
Performs calibrations, interlocks, and repairs on all types of instrumentation, pneumatic, and electronics to maintain safe and reliable operations.
Performs routine maintenance on site/facility electrical systems, including generator testing to prevent unplanned power outages.
Demonstrates knowledge of and use of electrical test equipment, volt, OHM, amp meters in order to calibrate electrical equipment.
Performs troubleshooting on series and parallel circuits pertaining to lighting, controls, heat tracing and interlocks.
Performs routine installation of electrical raceways and instrument tubing, including conduit and tubing bending and installation of associated fittings
Performs basic maintenance and troubleshooting on automated control systems, Programmable Logic Control (PLC)/Distributed Control System (DCS), and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
Assists in maintaining instrumentation and electrical technical documentation to ensure equipment designs, technical drawings, and process changes are documented and current. 
Follows National Electrical Code (NEC) while on the job. Knows and follows safety procedures to safely perform electrical work using proper PPE.
The ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair related equipment such as motor control centers; high and low voltage electrical distribution systems; and research equipment.
The capability to learn the operation of the site’s electrical systems; safely troubleshoot and quickly analyze problems related to break downs and outages to minimize disruption to research; general electrical maintenance and emergencies.
Installing electrical conduit, wire, fixtures, control circuits, motor control centers, distribution panels, and temporary power ability to splice, terminate electrical wires and cable, and temporary power.



High school diploma or GED equivalent
Min. 5 yrs. experience in Commercial / Industrial electrical maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems. 
Must hold or obtain within one year the State of Delaware, Journeyperson Electrical Professional License.
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with diverse groups, such as line management, engineer, planner / scheduler, maintenance, and operations technicians.  Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills 
Knowledge to use hand tools, portable power tools and diagnostic equipment. 
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, mechanical, electrical drawings, engineering standards and applicable regulatory codes.  
Basic computer skills and familiar with e-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel. 
Willing and able to work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions, ability to lift up to 50lbs and repetitive motion.
Demonstrated ability to work as a self-managed individual, solve problems and make independent decisions. 
Strong mathematics foundation, reading comprehension, problem solving, critical / analytical thinking, and mechanical skills.

Additional Experience Preferred


Delaware State Electrical Masters License is not required but preferred.
ISA certification or equivalent recommended but not required.
Experience working within an R&D research facility.
Knowledge of powerhouse and boiler operations for steam production.  
Familiar with preventative and predictive maintenance tools such as thermographic imaging etc.
Knowledge of high-voltage electrical distribution systems, 35,000-volt systems and transformers.
Knowledge of Building Automation Systems, i.e. Argus, Andover, Honeywell etc.  Preferred but not required.
