Within the Corporate Controller’s team, various sub-functions key to the reporting process exist including External Reporting & Technical Accounting (ER&TA), Corporate Accounting, and Consolidations. ER&TA serves as an oversight entity, helping various FMC functions in aligning business and financial reporting requirements. As such, ER&TA works closely with business leaders, FP&A leaders, functional areas such as legal, tax and treasury, consolidations/reporting team and Accounting Operations to assist with the delivery of quality internal and external financial reporting. The External Reporting and Technical Accounting Senior Accountant will formally report to the Assistant Controller but will work at the direction of the Manager of External Reporting and Technical Accounting on a daily basis in a hands-on, collaborative way.


The role will get exposure working in our S4Hana SAP ERP system along with our consolidation tool, BPC.  This position will be heavily involved in the preparation of external (SEC) reporting (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and will ensure the timely completion of all supporting documentation, preparation of footnote disclosure and supporting work papers along with compliance with internal controls over financial reporting. This role will work with the Manager to ensure all SEC requirements are met and that our earnings/investors materials are properly presented.


This position will also be responsible for certain elements of financial reporting and disclosure of our benefit plan reporting for defined contribution plans and defined benefit plans including the annual reporting requirements such as the Form 5500.


The position will help with various technical accounting or reporting matters that may arise in the course of normal business such as pension accounting, acquisition/divestiture accounting, recasting of prior reported financials due to policy changes, goodwill/intangibles impairment testing, and other reporting/accounting matters.


Major Responsibility Areas:

External Reporting Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and compliance of SEC reporting materials (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 11-K) and manage use of Workiva tool to ensure accurate and consistent financial information throughout the materials
  • Prepare and review documentation to support Form 10-Q, 10-K, etc.
  • Preparation of assigned accounting-related sections of other SEC filings such as registration statements, offering memoranda and equity prospectuses while assisting the Treasury department and the Manager of External Reporting and Technical Accounting in other aspects of these filings
  • Prepare documentation to support the statement of cash flows on a quarterly basis
  • Assist with the Company’s ongoing maintenance of the ASC 842 lease standard and monitoring the integrity of related controls
  • Prepare documentation to support annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing
  • Assist in preparation of audit committee presentations
  • Assist the Manager, External Reporting and Technical Accounting in monitoring the integrity of controls over the external reporting process through checklists, quarterly memorandums, and other methods to ensure compliance with the regulations resulting from Sarbanes Oxley 404
  • Maintain objective evidence for Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist on developing corrective actions, when required.
  • Review SOC-1 reports and assist with mapping to complementary user entity controls
  • Assist in technical research as necessary
  • Coordinate audit request with external auditors, internal auditors and compliance
  • Perform the printing process (Form 10-K)
  • Assist with filing with the SEC via EDGAR including review of XBRL coding
  • Assist Investor Relations and the Manager of External Reporting in the preparation of earnings releases, including:
    • Reviewing the narrative description of results by business to conform with the MD&A
    • Reviewing the financial schedules to help ensure compliance with past presentation and current U.S. GAAP requirements
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments including Consolidations, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Investor Relations, and Internal Audit
  • Assist with the annual financial statements for various FMC Retirement Plans, including filing of the Form 5500s and Form 11-K

Other Areas

  • Assist on special projects as needed as directed either by the VP, Corporate Controller or Assistant Controller

Required Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
  • CPA a plus or actively seeking
  • Big 4 Experience preferred


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in public accounting or similar experience.
  • Team-oriented mindsight
  • Self-starter and strong work ethic
  • Organized individual with the ability to juggle multiple work areas and stay on top of responsibilities and due dates
  • Demonstrate ability to work under time pressure especially during a reporting cycle
  • Heightened sense of attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge
  • Working knowledge of SAP, BPC, Workiva, and Adobe Acrobat Pro experience a plus, but not required
  • Proficient Excel skills (pivots, Vlook ups, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with non-accountants

Demonstrate understanding of US GAAP financial statement and SEC reporting
