Role Overview:

 

The Senior Accountant position will perform accounting activities for FMC Corporation’s North America business. The activities that must be performed include processing and reviewing journal entries, completing & validating reconciliations, maintaining relevant business unit general ledgers, assisting with closing activities and consolidation of business unit financial statements in a timely and accurate manner. The role is responsible for assisting with accounting activities in accordance with financial standards and other company policies, SOX and other regulatory requirements. This position will work closely with both the North America Controller and the Accounting Manager in the North America Accounting group. Part of the role will include assistance in driving standardization, process improvement and optimization across the group. The Senior Accountant will work within the North America Accounting group, with direct reporting into the Controller’s organization while also maintaining close relationships with business units.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with timely completion of business unit accounting activities
  • Assist with business unit accounting activities such as but not limited to journal entries, account reconciliation, other account analyses & business unit closing activities in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist in the execution of specific controls related to business unit accounting processes and other general accounting activities
  • Promptly respond to information requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Service as a key contact in providing support for both internal and external audit activities
  • Support and promote process excellence and continuous improvements initiatives
  • Comply with NA Accounting & Reporting Group and business unit service delivery guidelines
  • Maintain required documentation
  • Exhibit Safety as a value

Business Unit Accounting:

  • Assist with review of journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and adequate support for adjustments, accruals, prepayments and other types of journal entries in accordance with the financial standards and controls framework
  • Assist with maintaining the business unit’s ledger within SAP; providing accurate & consistent records of assets, liabilities and transactions
  • Assist with closing activities in accordance with the close calendar and checklist
  • Participate in financial close meetings with representatives of business units and prepare necessary analyses
  • Assist team in providing accounting advice and in preparing detailed calculations
  • Assist with analytical support to the Global business units to ensure accurate reporting
  • Partake in ad hoc accounting or finance project and analysis, as assigned
  • Operate within a robust SOX and internal control environment

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage workload and escalate inefficiencies & concerns to the Accounting Manager
  • Achieve deadlines set by leadership & the business and proactively monitor and raise instances where deadlines cannot be met in a timely fashion
  • Assist with the creation and modification of training programs and content (as needed).
  • Function as a member of a team, demonstrating effective teaming

Education:

  • A four-year degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA a plus or actively seeking
  • Big 4 Experience preferred
