Business Overview:

 

The North America Tolling organization compliments and supplements production volumes for FMC's US formulation manufacturing facilities. This organization manages 12-15 third party manufacturing locations and plays a key role in supporting the business growth. The Production Engineer position will support all aspects of routine engineering and production execution at all NA Tolling sites, including schedule compliance, product quality and yield, standard operating procedure adherence, and ensuring safe operations.

 

The position will also ensure the right raw material is utilized, be responsible for inputting SAP transactions, conduct transfer movements and review slow moving, obsolete, blocked stocks. Additional responsibilities of this role include, providing production forecasts from the planning tool to toll manufacturers, collating data for Production Planning & Control meetings and supporting the annual budgeting process. The Production Engineer role is based in Philadelphia, PA, and reports to the NA tolling manager.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Engineering Responsibilities:

 

- Provide EHS oversight at all third-party manufacturing locations, ensuring adherence to required safety practices and procedures (including Incident Reporting, MOCs, Safe Work Permits, and Adherence to PPE requirements), as well as execution of all required environmental compliance activities. Coordinate waste disposal at all Tolling locations.

- Teach the process of root cause (RC) / lessons-learned investigations and conduct RC investigations as needed for safety and quality incidents at third-party manufacturers; and execution of action items generated from such RC investigations.

- Track the weekly execution of the production plan, ensuring that all products are produced on time, and within quality specifications.

- Monitor product yields and material usage variances. Investigate and explain production variances at all Tolling locations.

- Batching sheet preparation and authorization for routine campaigns at all Tolling locations. Bill-of-material related work-flow approvals in SAP.

- Provide routine troubleshooting assistance to all Tolling locations for FMC formulations and packaging

- Identify continuous improvement opportunities with third-party manufacturers in the areas of cost, throughput, and quality; and work with the Toller to deliver those opportunities.

- Work with Toller site QC Labs to ensure effective quality control and assurance systems are in place and being executed for FMC products. Cross-contamination set point determinations for all Tolling locations.

- Support overall site capital improvement plan.

- Support the introduction of new products to third-party manufacturing sites.

- Work with FMC production scheduler and contract manufacturer to optimize the production schedule to minimize cost and improve schedule attainment.

- Provide on-going performance feedback to third-party manufacturing sites

- Serve as the immediate backup for the NA Tolling Manager, as needed.

 

Production Planning, Control, and Inventory Management:

 

- Download production forecast from Planning tool & review for opportunities for combining campaigns to hit minimum economic size & liaise with planners to change plans.

- Send production forecasts to Toller’s & ensure they reserve line time.

- Update information in Excel & update progress of campaigns / constraints / risks weekly.

- Review inventory of raw materials and packing materials to identify slow moving, obsolete, blocked stock and find ways of rework / reuse.

- Ensure run out inventory of raw materials, before switching; submit write off requests as needed to maintain clean & clear inventory.

 

Master Data Set-up & SAP:

- Obtain data necessary for setting up vendors, raw materials and submit through standard set up forms.

- Perform SAP transactions including, process order creation & closeout, goods receipt, stock transfers, purchase requisitions, MRP review, production & consumption posting, post good issue, create Bill of lading, inventory review as needed with accuracy & in a timely manner.

 

Required Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, required. 

 

Qualifications:

- Approximately 3-4 years' experience in engineering/manufacturing.

- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques (Kaizen, SMED, 5S, etc.) and statistical process improvement tools.

- Strong Computer Skills: Microsoft Office knowledge including expert level Excel, SAP knowledge preferred, Minitab or another statistical tool.

- Ability to manage a high workload, and multiple priorities.

- Demonstrated ability working in a team environment and effectively interface with other operating departments.

- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

- Experience initiating process improvements.

- Ability to travel approximately 25%.
