Research Scientist in Metabolic Engineering

This is a 12 months temporary position.

We are now looking for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Discovery and Design Team at FMC’s Pheromones Plant Health Division. The Pheromones Team is currently based in Central Copenhagen but is expected to move into new laboratories at our European Innovation Center in Hørsholm, Denmark in 2025.

About the job

In the Discovery and Design Team you’ll take on a key role in developing microbial production strains for industrial fermentation processes. Our tasks cover early discovery projects establishing microbial production of new compounds as well as development projects to enable cost effective biomanufacturing.

You’ll fit right into our team if science, innovation, and a dynamic workday are your main motivators as well as personal interactions with colleagues from different disciplines.

Your main responsibilities will be:

• Genetic design and construction of microbial strains to optimize production of chemicals
• To draft and execute the experimental designs
• Thorough recording and evaluation of experimental data
• To review and evaluate the academic literature and patent landscape
• To support IP filings

The ideal candidate brings the following experiences and qualifications to the role:

• You hold a PhD Degree in Metabolic Engineering, Molecular Biology or Microbiology; or MSc degree with 5+ years of industrial experience in a relevant field
• You possess a good understanding of microbial physiology and/or metabolic engineering
• You are a curious out-of-the box thinker with a technical mindset and a constructive hands-on attitude.
• Juggling multiple projects at the same time comes natural to you
• You are a pragmatic perfectionist who can draw the line at “good enough”
• You like to take on challenges and responsibilities and do it with pride in a good job done, be it of practical or of theoretical nature
• You are comfortable with English being the main work-language at FMC
