The FMC Agricultural Solutions has an immediate opening for an Electrical Controls & Data Acquisition Engineering Technologist with a background to develop engineering concepts and ideas into appropriately packaged research electromechanical equipment and systems. The successful candidate will join the Engineering Development Group located at the FMC Stine R&D center in Newark, DE.   


This position applies electrical control and data acquisition engineering technical expertise to evaluate research processes, generate innovative solutions to specific issues by creating electrical/electronic equipment concepts and designs, prototyping equipment demonstrations and conducting experiments/tests to prove concept principles, and then translate efforts into a final commercial operating piece of equipment or system.  Also, this position requires expertise to develop data acquisition systems that collect data from various instruments, sensors or devices and then shared and manipulated onto a common platform.  Efforts are focused on the support of existing research assays and the development of new assay equipment or systems that improve the quality of research to develop new crop protection products.  Successful applicant will have a strong background in PLC (hardware and software), PC’s (hardware and software), automation, HMI panel design, motors, drives, control systems, and mechanical and electrical equipment installation, startup, and troubleshooting.  This position requires the use of hand tools, and mechanical and electrical CAD capabilities.  The technologist will work within collaborative teams consisting of project managers, engineers, designers, biologists, chemists, formulation scientists, farm staff, maintenance personnel, contractor firms and fabrication vendors. 



  • Generate and translate development concepts into deliverables ranging from workable models and prototypes to commercial equipment and processes. 
  • Support the electrical and control design, development and validation of customized research application equipment and techniques to optimize in-house innovation. 
  • Design and fabricate stand-alone electronic systems for data acquisition and machine control via knowledge of electrical power, controls, instrumentation, panel design, wiring, and general fabrication techniques. 
  • Conduct experiments and coordinate the collection and analysis of data to ensure the practical feasibility of electrical and control designs and specifications. 
  • Use computer-based programming and design tools for developing conceptual control designs and creating logic code. 
  • Use CAD programs to document single-line, schematic, and equipment arrangement drawings. 
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness of designs as well as adherence to electrical and safety standards. 
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine loads and other data required for sizing electrical equipment. 
  • Communicate development project objectives and tasks clearly, concisely, and effectively to scientists, R&D operating personnel, vendors, team members and leaders.  



Education and Experience 

  • AAS degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of demonstrated work experience in electrical design and fabrication techniques, along with hands on experience with the installation and start-up of electro-mechanical system. 
  • Knowledge and experience of electrical power, control design, prototyping, control cabinet fabrication, instrumentation and integration, panel design, machine logic programing and data acquisition. 
  • Able to keep a systems-level view of electromechanical equipment and the interactions of mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines. 
  • Demonstrated ability to create and interpret block, single-line, schematic, and equipment arrangement drawings. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer-based programming and documentation tools. 
  • Demonstrated ability for Electrical & Instrument control techniques, panel fabrication, wiring practices, design capabilities, understanding of machine dynamics, system controls, and machine and process safety principles.
