Primary Function: This position is accountable and responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations, permits, and with corporate policy.  This position represents FMC Facilities and involves periodic interaction with environmental agencies and community representatives.  Telephone contact and face-to-face interactions with regulatory officials are a routine part of the job.  Primary responsibility will be heavily focused on Clean Air Act Title V permit compliance.  However, other areas of involvement include overall site environmental stewardship for other media (Water, Waste) such as hazardous chemical inventories, hazardous waste management, DOT compliance, Clean Water Regulations.  The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations, including RCRA, CERCLA, EPCRA, DOT, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Corporate environmental policies standards/guidelines.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Interface with state and federal environmental agencies on permit compliance and renewal, site inspections, regulatory interpretations, and advocacy.  Host agencies during site audits/visits.
  • Develop, maintain and administer systems to stay in compliance with existing regulations.
  • Evaluate and review proposed regulations to determine the impact to site environmental programs and compliance status.
  • Prepare and/or facilitate preparation of site environmental permits, permit renewals, and reports.
  • Provide onsite technical/technology expertise for soil and groundwater matters.
  • Provide guidance for EH&S Department staff and EH&S coordinators with environmental duties.
  • Manage and participate in quarterly first-party environmental audits to include audit reports and tracking action closure.
  • Work with site training coordinator to ensure that all required training programs and documentation are in place and maintained, also may provide training as needed.
  • Oversee the tracking of site waste generation and activities associated with waste minimization/pollution prevention information, performance and cost.
  • Regulatory oversight and reporting for on-site wastewater discharge operations.
  • Be one of several on-call EHS resources 24/7.

 

 Educational Attainment:

  • BS in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, or related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Verifiable experience can be used in-lieu of technical degree.

 

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Needed:

  • 5 plus years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) at a research or manufacturing plant site or related experience, preferred
  • Experience negotiating and interacting with regulatory agency personnel.
  • Able to operate interdependently with minimal guidance and actively pursuing goals to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work well in a diverse community and at all levels in the organization while creating and maintaining a respectful work environment.
  • Experience in the use computer systems and software applications in particular, Excel.
  • Strong track record of delivering quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in continuously maintaining skill level to keep knowledge current.
