Overview

FMC is seeking an experienced entomologist to lead the Product Support and Renewal (PS&R) Insecticides team, part of FMC’s Global Development Biology group. The PS&R Insecticides team leader works in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team of scientists to support new product registration and launch, as well as renewal of our market-leading diamide insecticides and other products. Working closely with their global network of scientists, their primary responsibility is to characterize new active ingredients and product offerings. They conduct lab, greenhouse and field trials to characterize and benchmark new products that are differentiated and bring value to our customers. They serve as a subject matter expert for assigned FMC insecticide active ingredients throughout the product lifecycle and work in partnership with our Global Technical Product Managers.

 

Responsibilities

  • Characterize attributes of new synthetic and biological products (i.e. potency, rainfastness, residuals activity, movement in the plant, crop safety) via lab, greenhouse and field studies. Develop new bioassays as needed to complete study objectives.
  • Write protocols for greenhouse and field studies conducted at FMC’s Stine Research Center and other global research stations. Write data summaries and communicate results/recommendations to project team as well as FMC leadership.
  • Work within the product biology team to generate data needed for product advancement in the development process and for knowledge transfer to our sales teams and customers. Develop training materials for FMC assets and train country teams on FMC products as well as general entomology and crop protection.
  • Manage global insecticide resistance monitoring program for new active ingredients in coordination with the Global Technical Product Manager and regional R&D teams.
  • As experts in their field, evaluate innovative proof-of-concept, third-party and product renewal technologies in conjunction with our Precision Agriculture and Plant Health teams to answer strategic challenges in the marketplace.
  • Work closely with an interdisciplinary team to address elevated product performance questions.
  • Supervise associate scientists, contractors, and interns.

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary, highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of testing methodologies and assay development to address various active ingredients and product formulations.
  • Knowledge of chemical, biological and environmental conditions that can impact product performance.
  • Experience applying pesticides and rearing different insects.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of agricultural cropping systems, pests, management practices, and products.
  • Experience with appropriate greenhouse and field plot techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical concepts and methods is required.
  • Strong understanding of insecticide resistance concepts including resistance management strategies to prolong product life and test methods to monitor pest population susceptibility.
  • Preference given to individuals with experience leading teams and projects with the demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions that drive business value.

 

Required Education

  • PhD in Entomology or a closely related discipline with a minor in Entomology with 5+ years of related work experience preferred.
  • MS in Entomology, Agronomy, or other agricultural/related science field with 10+ years of related work experience will be considered.
