FMC seeks a process engineer to join the R&D staff at the Stine Research Center located in Newark, DE, to support the commercial launch of novel crop protection products and advance innovative best in class scale-up and manufacturing technologies. Stine Research Center is FMC’s Center of Excellence for development of our global crop protection solutions.

 

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Process Engineer to join our team. The person in this position will have a strong background in chemical engineering including particle comminution, fluid flow, mass & heat transfer, and process optimization. As a process engineer you will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing processes integral to our synthetic, biologic, and seed treatment products. You will be responsible for the design, planning, and execution of scale-up studies and work with manufacturing sites globally to implement the process.

 

With five global research centers and a considerable manufacturing footprint worldwide, this person will need to maintain effective communication and collaboration with regional formulation chemistry and Technology Center teams. This is to maintain effective knowledge sharing and technology transfer, as well as coordination of operational readiness activities. In addition, the selected candidate may oversee kilo laboratory scale technology projects which will support the basic design of commercial equipment. The role will require up to 10% travel for product and process start-ups, site visits for process hazard reviews and trials at machine manufacturers.

 

Responsibilities

· Enable new product introductions with the highest technical quality

· Test and evaluate equipment, products, and procedures with the objective of identifying improvements for scale-up and routinely document results

· Hands on development and operation of on-line, in-line, at-line process analyzers

· Initiative-taker who can execute tasks within agreed upon timelines

· Planning and organizing activities and tasks within assigned responsibilities

· Partner with and influence key stakeholders including Technology Center, Manufacturing, and Regulatory to complete projects

· Support manufacturing sites to gain deeper knowledge of process operations

· Troubleshooting activities for existing manufacturing processes and perform root cause analysis

· Partner in the development of engineers in the organization

 

Education and Certifications

· BS Chemical Engineering; Degree from an accredited program or university with a minimum of 7 years’ experience

· MS Chemical Engineering; Degree from an accredited program or university with a minimum of 5 years’ experience

· PhD Chemical Engineering; Degree from an accredited program or university

· Six Sigma certification, green belt or higher preferred

 

Qualifications

· Strong background in chemical engineering

· Able to work independently with minimal supervision

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across internal functions

· Work in various settings, including Lab, Pilot, and Production environments

· Strong computing skills

· Specialization in powder and particle technology is strongly preferred

· Experience with microencapsulation is strongly preferred

· Previous experience in a research or a manufacturing environment is preferred

· Familiarity with statistical analysis and DOE is preferred

· Proficiency in process simulation and modeling software is preferred
