Role Overview:

 

The Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) will lead the global procurement function and be responsible for the procurement strategy of diverse business activities at FMC. This role is responsible for leading and managing the company’s procurement function across all business units for both direct and indirect purchases.  The CPO will lead the strategic sourcing process that aligns to the company’s long-term business goals, including strategy development, spend and market analysis, supplier selection and negotiation, contract development and management, implementation, performance management and risk management. The CPO must continuously search for ways to leverage the enterprise spend to drive productivity, optimize costs, and align procurement initiatives across the enterprise to maximize the overall business value. This role will report directly to the Executive VP, Integrated Supply Chain.

 

Key Role Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved procurement efficiencies.

Supplier Management:

  • Evaluate and develop strategic supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and implement systems for monitoring performance, assessing risk, and responding to change in demand or disruptions in supply chain.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Organizational Design:

  • Analyze and evaluate the current procurement organizational structure to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Develop and implement a streamlined procurement framework that enhances efficiency, accountability, and collaboration across teams.
  • Align procurement functions with overall business strategies to ensure effective resource allocation and process integration.

Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Set clear performance metrics and monitor team performance against objectives.

Risk Management:

  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with procurement activities.
  • Identifies critical long-term issues that could affect the planning and decision-making process.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Update Procurement policies and procedures as businesses evolve with a focus on global growth and on enhanced internal controls around all spending activities.

 

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., finance, manufacturing, and legal) to understand their needs and align procurement activities.
  • Facilitate cross-functional projects to enhance overall operational efficiency.

Market Analysis:

  • Stay informed about market trends and industry developments to inform procurement strategies.
  • Analyze supplier performance and market conditions to make data-driven decisions.

Budget Management:

  • Oversee the procurement budget and ensure spending aligns with financial goals.
  • Report on procurement performance and savings to senior management.

 

Required Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, economics, finance, operations, or a related field
  • Master’s degree preferred. 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 15+ years’ experience leading global sourcing/procurement teams and initiatives supporting large matrix organizations
  • Experience in indirect and direct procurement.
  • Experience in complex, global industries/markets with a strong customer centric focus.
  • Demonstrated and proven negotiation and contract management capabilities.
  • The ideal candidate has successfully led complex negotiations in high stakes situations and managed large budgets.
  • In depth knowledge of sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
