GSS Business Function Overview:

 

Global Specialty Solutions (GSS) is a business unit that sits within the broader FMC Corporation.  The GSS Technical Service Manager (TSM) reports into the Herbicide/Fungicide Product Development & Lead Technical Service Manager and is responsible for technical and sales support for the various non-crop markets including Golf, Turf and Ornamental, and Pest Control. The TSM is expected to work closely with market specialists, key account managers and to share broad technical product knowledge and expertise across functionally within GSS (marketing, regulatory, formulation, and product development). 

 

Primary responsibilities include support of existing products and new product launches through management of field, lab, and greenhouse trials, providing input for sales tools, marketing collaterals, developing and delivering technical training presentations to customers, distributors, as well end users, and managing customer complaints.

 

The Technical Service Manager will have responsibility for the Northeast and Midwestern regions.  It is preferred the successful candidate reside near one of the following metro areas: Columbus, OH, Philadelphia, PA, or Baltimore, MD.  This position is remote. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong technical knowledge in the areas of fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and/or biologicals.  Candidates are expected to have knowledge of product attributes such efficacy, mode of action, and how they work to help end users achieve their goals.   
  • Develop external technical credibility as demonstrated through publications and presentations at customer, scientific, and trade association regional and/or national meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with university research personnel and other key academic and industry influencers.
  • Develop, execute & supervise appropriate field trials and other activities supporting commercial initiatives, ensuring testing programs are both aligned with market trends and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain a strong connection to product development managers to ensure in-depth understanding of development projects to support new product launches.
  • Identify new development/commercial opportunities and make technical recommendations to shape the overall development pipeline.
  • Serve as key contact for customer complaint investigation and resolution.
  • Work with key stakeholders to fulfill customer requests for training, problem resolution, product inspection and certification.
  • Develop training modules and provide technical training both internally and externally.
  • Provides support to new product launches with customers and trade show events.
  • Travel to attend key customer meetings, trade industry meetings, and conferences both within and outside assigned territory.
  • Provide technical input for label updates/amendments and sales and marketing pieces.

 

Required Education & Certifications:

 

  • MS in Plant Pathology, Weed Science, or Agronomy  
  • PhD preferred

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 3-10+ years of experience in technical support as a subject matter expert in fungicides or herbicides and their uses in the various GSS segments: golf, lawncare, athletic turf, nursery/ greenhouse, or adjacent green and pest industries.
  • Strong technical, sales support skills, as well as flexibility to accommodate changing customer needs
  • Experience with field trial experimental design, data interpretation, reporting of results, and effectively demonstrating the features and benefits of products.
  • Proven ability to effectively transfer complex technical information to audiences with limited technical expertise
  • Outstanding written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively under pressure, navigate contentious situations, and resolve conflict
  • Ability to build and sustain strong business relationships with customers and coworkers
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently and using sound judgement
  • Leads projects with little guidance required and proactively follow up to ensure research cooperators execute trials and deliver timely reports and data.
