Trade Compliance Specialist

In this position, the Trade Compliance Specialist (TCS) will have the opportunity to contribute to the building of our Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Program in a newly formed, center-led GTC team.  The TCS will support FMC’s compliance with import & export related laws ensuring adherence to US Customs and other partnering agency regulations.  The ideal candidate is a specialist passionate about their chosen field who is eager to add value to a growing, high visibility team.  This position will be based at the FMC Tower (global headquarters in Philadelphia).   

The responsibilities of this position may evolve over time, and other functions may be assigned as appropriate.  This work requires considerable independent judgment and initiative to ensure achievement of corporate trade compliance objectives.



  • Maintains FMC’s trade compliance program(s) in partnership w/ cross functional teams as appropriate.
  • Executes global 3rd party risk mitigation processes related to sanctions, embargoes, and export controls; performs screenings and assesses potential matches.
  • Supports the trade compliance team with analysis related to Valuation, Country of Origin, Classification, and other trade specific topics.
  • Creates, socializes, maintains standard operating procedures, delivers training to relevant business units, conducts audits, creates audit reports, and helps drive corrective actions 
  • Monitors broker performance
  • Supports FMC’s supply chain security initiatives (CTPAT)
  • Assesses feasibility of FMC’s participation in preferential trade programs
  • Keeps abreast of industry and regulatory changes affecting FMC
  • Proactively builds and maintains a strong working knowledge FMC’s business and products
  • Supports Internal, External, and agency audits, as needed
  • Identifies and elevates improvement opportunities
  • Champions the implementation of standardized processes & technology
  • As needed, leads cross-functional projects with trade compliance expertise



  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Business, International Relations, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field of study.
  • Certified Customs Specialist or Licensed Customs Broker preferred but not required



  • 8+ years’ experience with international trade compliance laws and regulations including but not limited to, import, export, Sanctions, Harmonization Tariff system (HTS), valuation, country of origin, anti-boycott laws, free trade agreements, etc.
  • Working knowledge of trusted trader programs including Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Importer Self-Assessment (ISA)
  • ERP/process experience: SAP, SAP GTS (preferred), other trade compliance software 
  • Understanding of business processes impacted by trade compliance regulations
  • Analytical skills for risk detection, tech savvy
  • Ability to deliver training on trade compliance topics
  • Experience in applying corporate policies
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with other departments to advance organizational goals
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally if necessary
